Chief Idowu Sofola, MON, SAN (1934-2018)

The Founder

The late Chief Idowu Sofola, MON, SAN was the founder & Principal Partner of the firm. He was called to the English bar at Middle Temple Inn of Court, London and enrolled at the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1962. A litigator per excellence, Chief Idowu Sofola invested over fifty-five (55) years of his life in the legal profession and distinguished himself in the practice of law.

The immense experience and vast wealth of knowledge he garnered over the years of practice helped position the firm to provide the kind of legal services it does, which protects its clients and helps them achieve their business and organizational goals.

Until his death Chief Idowu Sofola, MON, SAN was an active life member of the Body of Benchers as well as several other organizations and bodies both within and outside the legal profession. His daunting list of achievements includes the following to mention a few:

  • In 1979, he was elected as General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association;
  • He was a Member of the Council of Legal Education; the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC); the General Council of the Bar (GCB); and the Legal Aid Council;
  • Until his death, he was a Life Bencher of the Body of Benchers and a former Chairman of the said body.
  • He was the first African (and till date the only African) to be elected as the Secretary General of the International Bar Association.
  • In 1989, he was elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
  • Until his death, Chief Idowu Sofola, MON, SAN, held Directorships in several prestigious Nigerian companies.
